:: WHAT SURE START DOES

Range of Services:

By working in partnership with parents and other agencies, and by utilising the wide range of skills available, we can offer a range of services which are available to all parents and carers (grandparents, childminders etc.) of young children aged 0 - 3 years.

Activity Based Parent Support Groups:

A range of locally based groups which provide:

  • opportunities for children's development through play.

  • support for families to enhance their understanding of, and their ability to meet, the needs of their child.

  • opportunities to develop social networks.

  • assistance to parents to access local provision and mainstream services.

Focussed Group Work:

This may include groups

  • Supporting parenting for teenagers (for support before and after birth)

  • Dads

  • Ethnic Minorities

  • Post Natally Depressed

  • Parents and children with special needs

  • Parents with drug / alcohol issues

Individual Work:

Parents experiencing difficulties can request individual support (through their health visitor, nursery or social worker) from a range of professional staff on issues which may affect their ability to parent with confidence.

Career Development Advice:

The provision of support to parents of very young children by Sure Start career advisers to develop the educational/employment potential of parents who want to return to work and to advise on benefits, childcare, options and choices etc.
