VIEWING INTERACTION POSITIVELY (V.I.G.-S.P.I.N.)
V.I.G. is an intensive, home-based programme which
aims to improve communication in the family using video. The approach is based on Colwyn
Trevarthens work on early communication skills and inter-subjectivity. Practitioners
work closely with parents, children and teachers in deliberately capturing positive
interaction on film. The work comprises filming and feedback and is supervised by a
qualified trainer. The focus is on analysis of short clips of film and the film taken is
examined with reference to the "contact principles" a set of descriptive
categories which include eye contact, turn taking, tone of voice, the giving and receiving
of initiatives etc. When appropriate, higher order communication skills are incorporated
e.g. co-operation, problem solving, attended guiding/leading etc.
Who would benefit from V.I.G?
